Cameras, internal storage, an SD slot, and DSiWare made the DS family more personal and connected.

Nintendo DSi removed the Game Boy Advance slot but added two cameras, music tools, and a downloadable software store. It was a meaningful platform update rather than a simple cosmetic revision.
